I have a great question from Elizabeth. She asks this:
"how do you log into your second wizard 101 account."
Great question, and it's really quite simple. There are actually two parts to running Wizard101. You first run the "game launcher," which is the little window showing RavenWood News and has a place to log in.
This is the game launcher
When the bars have finished loading, you press the red "Play!" button, and this closes the launcher and opens the actual Wizard101 program. (You know, where you see your wizards sitting at their desks.)
If you try to run two Wizard101 Game Launchers at the same time, you'll get the message "Wizard101 is already running on your computer" and it won't let you start. So what you need to do is let the Game Launcher complete, close, and bring up the actual Wizard101 program, and then you can run the Game Launcher again!
This time you'll enter your second account information into the Game Launcher and wait for it to load.
I actually own about five or six accounts myself and occasionally (although it is rare these days) will set the game resolution down to 800x600 and run four accounts at once using this method.
"Do you know what the beanie is called from christmas? ive
been looking for the name everywhere and just cant find it."
I do! Um, or at least I think I do. Those beanies come from the Winterland Pack and are the hairstyles (which you can stitch to hats) known as The Fakie Ollie and The Halfpipe.
OH YEAH! I kind of dig that look while riding the Road Warrior's Chopper! Although some kind of snowboard mount would be amazing.
Great choice of hat there. Probably Christmas in July is what recently brought these hats to your attention, amiright? They're a pretty great looking for sure.
Thanks for the question, Big Goof! If that isn't the hat you're looking for, leave me a comment with more description, and I'll see if I can track it down.
"What is the movement called where all men go across the board in one turn? Vicious charge is only for the main character."
Cool! I do believe this might be the first Pirate mechanics question to ever hit my inbox. I like it! Thanks for the question Paul.
I'm going to make this short and sweet: Highland Charge is the power you're most likely looking for.
From what I understand, it's very popular in PvP where you can throw on your valor's fort powers and then charge your whole team across the board . . . watch out for that Purge though!
I've yet to use this skill in PvE on my Bucc, but I suppose coupling this with the Pirate ability would give you a pretty good advantage if you could use it in time (or when on a very large battle board)
If you have any tips for using Highland Charge, feel free to leave them below.
"I've been farming a boss for 2 days now for a pet called Zombie it looks like Grubb but umm
Is it confirmed to be dropped?
Thanks for sending a message, Nick. Yes, the zombie pet is confirmed to be dropped by a boss named Grendel Madlings.
A good way to know something is verified as dropped is by checking out the player-made wiki for the item: Zombie Pet. Knowing KingsIsle as I do, there really would be no reason we'd ever remove this pet from a loot table . . . on purpose. And to be honest, I highly doubt anyone has modified or even thought about the Grendel Madlings boss in years, so I'd give it a 99% assurance that it still drops. Also, taking a look at that player-made wiki page, it also looks like it drops from the Purreau's Plentiful Pet Provisions Pack. That should make it quite a bit more available out in the wild.
To be honest, your best bet is probably signing up to a site like Wizard101 Central and asking if someone has one to hatch with you, like this person did back in 2014. Wizard101 Central has a super active pet hatching group and I'm also about 99% sure someone there would hatch with you if you post in the Pet Mixing Meetups forum. Or alternatively try using the #W101 hashtag on Twitter to see if anyone could help.
Hope that helps and best of luck with your pet hunt!
Hey all! I have a Wizard101 question here from Roxie:
"Where can I sell no auction treasure cards? I am overloaded with them and if they cant be
sold what can be done with them?"
~~
I hear ya, Roxie. I currently have 999/999 treasure cards myself. I really need to offload some of them. Here's a few things you can do.
1- I hate to even recommend this, but if you have a second account, several players will create new level one players just to hold treasure cards on. They just trade them over and when the crafting bug comes calling, they'll dig up whichever character was holding whichever treasure card and trade it back to themselves.
2- Trade them to a lowbie . . . just to be awesome. There's nothing cooler than going into an MMO and someone dumps a game changing item on you. This has only ever happened to me a couple times, but I have to say . . . random acts of kindness rock.
3- Use them. If you can't actually use them in battle, go find someone you can help out with that "one weird treasure card" that's just not right for your class. . . . and what if this is a GARDENING treasure card you're talking about? Well, you really should be doing some gardening!! It's great!
4- Delete them. How? Just right click on the treasure card you want to dump and say YES.
It's as easy as that . . . and, again, what if it's a GARDENING Treasure card? Same thing, only from a different location.
You go into your gardening spells, select the treasure card there, and right click. POOF! It's gone.
5- Hope for something better in the future? I know it's been discussed and discussed, but there's always time to bring it up again . . . never forget you can make requests for new features and conveniences on the Wizard101.com official message boards right here: click me!
Best of luck and thanks for the question. If anyone has additional thoughts, feel free to leave them in the comments.
Hey all! I got a great question over Twitter yesterday from the one and only Paige Moonshade.
"Which is your favorite monster on Rise and Destroy?"
So, first . . . yes! Rise & Destroy is out there now available for download WORLDWIDE! Today is the official announcement day (as far as the press release is concerned). I'm super psyched for everyone to get to play this now. It's a tough game, but also a lot of fun. Have some patience and determination and I'm sure you'll make it to the end.
Most everyone else at work is farther along than me right now, so the answer is a bit more complicated . . . because out of the monsters that are currently in my inventory (which is only Trevor Wrecks, Frankie Forearms, and Manny Leggs), I would have to go with . . . TREVOR WRECKS!
I think there's a reason they put him as the first monster in the game . . . versatile, all around good T-Rex monster thing, right?! His roar and breath attack are a good combo that gives him some distance. I'm all about ranged attacks. (You just have to do some extra clicking sometimes to turn off his breath attack sooner than it naturally expires.) Overall, Trevor Wrecks is my guy for wrecking the humans!
HOWEVER, being as I am also the dude responsible for creating all the vines of the Monsters you see on Rise and Destroy's Vine page (we have special commands for unlocking all the monsters and levels in a special version of the game), I have had a chance to play all of the monsters. Hmm, I think stylistically, I'm going to give all the awards to SHARBERUS!
A shark poodle that evolves into a three-headed shark poodle? And that hair??! Guys . . . that's the definition of winning for me! I can't wait to get her in the live game.
Anyway, I hope you all have a chance to play Rise and Destroy this week and check it out. It's a great game that's completely different, yet still has that KingsIsle touch. :) Good times are ahead for KingsIsle's mobile team in 2015-2016.
I got another email from Valdus! He asks this: "I found this book at the Royal Museum, And i'm wondering what its for, any ideas? Or since you work at Kingsisle maybe you can ask your co-worker(s)?"
Heya Valdus! I have an answer for you . . . but I'm also going to show you how I found the result, because that's far more interesting than the answer . . . it's a quest goal for Ice Wizards for their level 78 spell quest. They get to read all about Woolly Mammoths here. :)
Actually this is all the quest goal says for Ice Wizards:
"Your eyes glaze over as you read extensively on the subject of Mammoths (Woolly)."
When I first went looking for the answer, I Googled: "Big Ben Book Pedestal"
That didn't get me what I wanted, so I narrowed the search a bit and got more specific with ""locate book pedestal" royal museum Wizard101" and this was right on the money.
If only Life could always be a clean Google search result with only one topic, am I right?! It led me right to Wizard101 Central's wonderful wiki page that mentions locating a book pedestal in the Royal Museum. The key really was using the search term "Royal Museum" in conjunction with exactly how the quest goal would read in quotations, "locate book pedestal."
I'm hoping that solved the mystery. If not, I'm sure I'll have an Ice Wizard pop in and say "nuh uh!" and leave a comment for us. In that case, the mystery will continue, but I'm about 99% sure this is the book we're looking for. I can't remember if my Ice Wizard has that spell or not. It seems familiar, but I should probably log her in and see what quest she's on.
So I've got a few things for you here this morning.
1- KI Live for February was a lot of fun, and here's the YouTube for it:
As always, it's a lot of fun interacting with the community and sharing the news with Leala and #JuliafromKI. :)
~~
2- I made a few game humor vines on Saturday for kicks. Thought I'd share them here for you. (You can toggle on the sound by clicking the volume control in the bottom right hand corner)
Pirate101:
I love those street sweepers!
Wizard101:
Watch where you're going, Wizards!
Guild Wars 2:
I've been playing a lot of GW2 lately with a few of my friends. Dance parties will happen! (What's up with random bear? I love random bear!)
DC Universe Online:
hehe . . . gotta love when the interact animation. If you haven't played this game, the joke may fall short.
~~
3- I got a question from Valdus Silverdust, our up and coming necromancer! His question is this, "Hiya Friendly! only 2 levels away from getting Animate, But, I'm stuck, so i
need to fight Freddy Nine Lives 9 times, right? so i am wondering, can i have
some tips on him?"
Sounds like you're doing great, Valdus! Keep at it!
Honestly, it's been so long since I fought Freddy Nine Lives that I had to look him up. hehe. Now that I've looked at his page on the Wiki, it's all coming back to me. Freddy wasn't really too tough if I remember right . . . it was just kind of annoying (and also kind of cool) that you had to fight him nine times to get your spell.
Looking at his spell list, it appears the real spells you have to watch out for are his out-of-school cards that he casts like lightning bats and sunbird. If you're struggling with these spells, it might be worth it to stop off at the Bazaar and pick up a few Volcanic Shield Treasure Cards.
Also, as a side note, I was kind of shocked when a co-worker of mine had no idea he had a free death shield spell available to him from Sabrina Greenstar (you get a free shield of your class type, e.g. Death Wizards get a Death Shield, Storm Wizards get a Storm Shield, etc.). If you haven't picked up that card yet, make sure you visit her in the Fairgrounds section of the Wizard City Commons.
You'll also be well served by using your Death Prism spell against Freddy Nine Lives because he is a rank 4 death boss that will be weak against life magic.
Hang in there and stick with it, and hopefully you wont' have to spend . . . wait for it . . . five nights at freddy nine lives . . . before you beat it. *winces*
Level 80 for Thomas happened in July 2012. This is when things started to shift for me. Instead of finishing Avalon right after it was released, it took me a few months to get through it . . . That's because Pirate101 had just been revealed and my life was turned upside down as I took a job at KingsIsle.
Level 90 and Azteca was wrapped up by Thomas in May 2013.
. . . and as I said, I *finally* just dinged level 100 last night! Woot!
Reading back through that, it appears the best tips I could give are patience and make friends! Life as a necromancer can be a bit daunting when you solo, and nothing makes Wizard101 more fun (nor easier) than when you play with another person.
1-50 is a breeze. You won't find much trouble soloing anything outside of Malistaire and a few key dungeons here and there. Standard tips apply here: Start your deck light with as few spells as possible so Wizard101 doesn't become a "discard" game trying to find that perfect card -- instead, carry only what you need. Load your treasure cards up smartly with the perfect defensive or utility spell for when you need it. Look at the mob you face before you blindly run in and see what class it is, chances are this will guide which shield you should load into your deck (although most 1-50 fights don't require heavy shielding). If you're soloing, your drain spells are your best bet -- they'll heal you to max and prepare you for the next fight. Learn to cast a death shield on yourself and empower or sacrifice off of it.
Level 50-60 is a gear check. You should start going to the Bazaar every few levels and see what's available for you. You'll most likely start seeing why shields, universal resist, and crit block are so valuable here.
Level 70, take some time out to do waterworks. It's not needed, but most of us at level cap did this, and I would bet Avalon was designed thinking everyone was wearing Waterworks gear and using Sun Magic, so . . . using waterworks gear and using Sun Magic would be a good idea. ;) It's not 100 percent needed, but those universal resists sure help.
Level 80+ -- Find a partner if possible and take a support role to them. You'll discover you're quite handy in a group. Debuffs, blades, sacrifices . . . you've got quite a bit of support power. Spend time getting a good pet to help you with resists and healing. Anyone can fill any role in Wizard101 (tank, dps, support) with the right combination of gear and cards -- just some do it much better. Pick a role and be the best you can be at it.
**READERS! If you have any great tips, please share them in the comments!**
So . . . best of luck, Valdus! Thanks for reading and for your question. Hope to see you at the gates of Darkmoor soon!
I asked this on Twitter a few weeks back but you probably didn't see it due
to being so busy, so I might as well ask again while you still have time to
answer it.
A while back I made some spell cards for Wizard101 based on the Pirate101
power card called Reckless Frenzy (allows the user to keep attacking the same
target over and over again until they miss at the cost of 5% of their health).
These are just some rough drafts that I whipped up, but I would like to know
what you think of them and what might possibly happen in terms of advantages and
disadvantages should they ever make their way into the actual game.
Thanks in advance."
Interesting idea, Seth! It would definitely require some balance from a Designer so that it wasn't overpowering for a 5 pip spell, but with the potential to do more than your average 5 pip spell, right? It's like a luck-based spell where you could alter your chances of being lucky with stacked buffs.
That balance would probably include a set damage number since that isn't listed (unless this is an aura or a sun magic card?). Personally I'd like to see the starting chance to hit a little higher to begin with since I'll be losing 5% accuracy per cast, but that'd all have to be fleshed out in the balance of the spell. Might be cool to see the damage get higher and higher with each strike to make it so if you're lucky, you're really lucky and also so you don't have to blade 6 times to get full effectiveness. Then again, that is part of the problem with Myth class . . . you feel like you always have to double blade everything, which tends to get annoying. Would players stack 6 or 7 blades on themselves with this?
Hmm. It also would most likely increase the value of loading up personal class shields in your deck, as you'd probably want to stack those on yourself before casting. In a way it kind of sounds like a more metered wild bolt or insane bolt with guaranteed damage on both sides.
It definitely would be a sticky spell that would take players time to master, and I do like that you're trying to bring a Pirate101 mechanic to Wizard101! Very creative!
Anonymous asks, "Ok, a serious question. Why didn't pirate101 use your voice for One-eyed Jack, or at least gave us a "team Friendly" option so we could pick who's voice we'd hear? Yes i know they hired professional voice actors and yes they did a great job. But that is the only thing i would change on the game because i think it's missing and it would not destroy the magic of the game (the illusion, the setting, or whatever you want to call it), it would be an improvement. A tongue-in-cheek moment that only we would get maybe, but it would be really great."
I actually pitched really hard to our sound team to please let me be the voice of Salty Ned, who gives away One-Eyed Jack's ruse. I just thought it would have been exactly what you're talking about there -- a tongue-in-cheek moment that only people who knew me would get. Unfortunately they already had a guy, and he had a great pirate voice for the part. The check was cut, the voice had been approved, and the deal was done, so I was out of luck.
I have auditioned for voice parts in the past, but it just hasn't happened for me yet. YET! I'm on a mission to make that happen. hehe. :)
I do appreciate the support! Thanks for cheering on Team Friendly!
Anonymous asks, "Hi Friendly! I have a question that's bugging me for a while now: why are
watermelons green on the outside?"
Um . . . Chlorophylls on the outside, flavanoids on the inside? I pirated that guess of a pigmented answer from here.
I did study botany for a year back in my collage days, but that stuff is just a really really distant memory now. Probably a better question for the people at whataboutwatermelon.com. ;)
(Why am I remembering something crazy I once said about watermelons on a Ravenwood Radio podcast? What was that?)
Bailey asks, "What's your favorite W101/P101 world, and why?"
Hmm. Well, the cop out answer is "whichever one I'm currently playing in!" I really do think I give a different answer every time I'm asked this question, but for today? Today I'm really feeling both of the Marleybone worlds!
In Wizard101 I've spent a ton of time running around Regent's Square exploring, and I always liked roaming the rooftops. I like the rides on the Balloon Ships with Mr. Personality. I totally love chasing down Meowiarty, and I'm intrigued by his entanglement with Malistaire. I like the night time sky and the funky bobbies. . . . It's kind of funny because I fully understand that Marleybone is the most hated Wizard101 world there is, but strangely I really like it!
In Pirate101 players really DIG Marleybone (ruff ruff), you finally get to down two major Armada leaders, there are fireworks in the skyways, and the town environments are just really beautifully done (makes me pine for a remake of the Wizard101 Marleybone world looks -- although I doubt that'll ever happen). There's some really awesome plot points in the story that are tragic and well thought out . . . it's just a great world that I know Blind Mew the developer is proud of. He should be!
And in both worlds of both games I just really like the steampunk vibe--that ALONE would escalate them to my favorite worlds. Steampunk is awesome.
How about you? What are your favorite worlds and why?
D.S. Devereaux asks, "What do you suppose would be the difference between the citizens of Gobblerton and the Gobblers of Colossus Boulevard? I suppose they'd send the fatter, more powerful gobblers to scope things out, but they could want leaner adventurer-types to claim the new kingdom. (Just in case, I'm not attempting/implying to abuse #1 of the off-list. Just awfully curious on what you think of the topic.)"
Hmmmm. You know, it does appear that perhaps as a Gobbler grows in size he also becomes part of the upper echelon of Gobblerdom, as demonstrated by the extreme size of the Gobbler King.
He's awesome, isn't he? I love that Jeff Toney took him on as his avatar at KingsIsle.
I really have no idea about the back lore of the Gobblers, but I'm sure it all resides somewhere in someone's head as a vague memory from seven years ago . . . that's usually how all original Wizard City lore goes. With that said, I think your theorizing is probably spot on!
The raiding Gobblers on the street that are a bit leaner and stinkier.
And then there's the Prince who's as big as a Buffaloon.
I'm sure the citizens of Gobblerton come in all shapes and sizes and have their own backward fun. In my mind I'm imagining a school like Wysteria, only made of Gobbler schools . . . School of Gaseous Cloud . . . School of Skeletal Food Remains . . . School of Taco Throwing . . .
It's certainly something that lends itself to Fan Fiction!
Duncan StormThief writes, "Hello Friendly, very kind of you to let us ask you questions. OK, I can only
imagine how much time were you spending in wizard101 while you were blogging,
and only blogging about it. Now when you work for KI do you have any time at all
for wizard101, did you defeat the Morganthe? I am only asking this, bcs since I
got "hooked" on pirates I don't spend time on wizard101 like I used to. I was
constantly farming for something, mostly pets, have a huge first gen pet
collection. But know when I embraced my my pirate side, I am spending way less
time on there. Also now that pirates introduced the adv pet, I am way more
occupied with pirate101 then wizard101. Now, I was wondering, how is this all
impacting you? Not only that you play pirate101, you are working for pirate101
team. Do you still have time for wizard101, or maybe you barley have the time
for both games? Do tell. Sry for long text, I am looking forward hearing from
you :) " ~~
Oh yeah, definitely when you work at the company that makes the games you love, things change a bit. When you see the inner workings daily and watch the team creating content and know all the internal struggles and victories that go into making new stuff, it changes things. When you come home from a hard day of thinking about Pirate101 and Wizard101,it can be harder to turn on a game of Pirate101 or Wizard101 to relax and unwind; although, it is possible, and I've successfully done it before plenty of times! :) But, I for sure want you to know that I definitely still love these games, and I'm still playing them -- whether on Internal servers or in the Live Game. I think deeply about them each day, and I'm very excited for everybody to see all the cool things coming next.
As for Wizard101, I was doing pretty good keeping up with expansions until Khyrsalis hit, and then I started to fall behind. Actually, if Uber Wife was playing more Wizard101 right now, it would be even MORE motivation to play. (Having family members to play beside is always nicer. Not that I'm blaming Uber Wife mind you . . .) So to answer your question, I have yet to beat Morganthe in her final manifestation. It sounds like fun though, and it's on my list of things to do.
As to your worries of bouncing back and forth between Wizard101 and Pirate101, I think our hearts tend to gravitate more to one game at a time. What do you think? A lot of that seems to involve the people that are hanging out there waiting for you to log on as well. You know . . . FRIENDS! Either way, I'm psyched that KingsIsle games are your games of choice. Awesome.
Have fun with those pet collections!
Thanks for understanding, and I appreciate the note.
Colin asks, "What's the best way to solo Beloq Zafaria as a fire?"
Well, I decided to try it out for you tonight using Uber Wife's character. Granted she's Level 90ish, but this was the deck I used, which was full of many non-90ish level spells. In fact, the whole thing was link, sun magic enchants, tower shield, heckhound, fire minion, satyr, pixie, and fire elf spamming.
She's also wearing a pet that casts fire blades and uses Spritely and I think is still sporting Waterworks gear.
I took out Belloq first . . .
. . . and then his minion.
. . . ze readers may have some additional insights in the comments below!
Zero Knight asks, "Will you be joining Toontown Rewritten, or have joined it? :D Thats all ^-^ "
Ohhhhhh Yeah . . . Kiersten Samwell sent me a link to that just yesterday. hmm . . . OK, Lemme go see about that . . .
HEY! Looks fun enough, I sure remember playing the original. I'll go ahead and register now . . .
Anon asks: "Is Walk in Darkness supposed to multiply damage even if the next attack is a
damage-multiplying power, such as Assassin's Strike? I've heard people say they
do this, but it's never worked for me, so I'm wondering if it's a bug."
Ratty, as in Ratbeard the developer, talked about this once . . . check this link. Others have noted recently the way it works seems strange as well and he promised to check it out.
Personally though . . . I think as long as you look awesome, it don't matta none.
OH YEAH, dig the name on my Level 4 Swashbuckler there (sorry, it's the one class I just really haven't played much of).
From Scarlet Frogslinger: "Would you ever dress up to look like your Wizard? What about the rest of the
family?" ~~
. . . Uh . . . what kind of freak do you think I am, Scarlet? OF COURSE I WOULD!
We do that from birth around here . . . it's like, I come home from work and instead of putting on my relaxing shoes like Mr. Rogers, I throw on the wizard shoes.
I actually have a great picture of Uber Wife dressed up as Morganthe that I'm having a hard time finding right now, but . . . it was awesome, trust me. Definitely something she could throw on at a convention to get her cosplay going (although, seriously, it would take some talkin' to make that happen outside of Halloween).
