I was playing through Wysteria tonight with Myrna (earned my Spiral Cup :)) and noticed that Wysteria has three different types of ways to display wands and staves.
The first is the more traditional method found back in Wizard City: Wands on a rack.
The second method is to place them all on a long table . . .
The third method is in these really awesome shadow boxes:
We've asked for a way to hang our weapons in our housing before, but seeing all these alternate methods made me think perhaps it's time to bring it up again. I continue to collect wands and staves, and it would be super dooper awesome if I could put those in my housing and get them out of my bank and bags. You know what I mean?
I think I prefer the shadow box method for looks. Those are awesome! Although for space conservation purposes, perhaps a simple weapon rack would be best.
Which is your favorite?
Speaking of wands, did you happen to notice the pip giving wand you can get at 20th level from the "Let's Dance" quest in Wysteria?
Add another to my collection! That's a cool new beast right there. Before this, you weren't seeing a pip giving wand outside of the crowns shop until Marleybone. Nice! That wand is definitely a reason to side step from Krokotopia to Wysteria.
The news came down over Twitter yesterday that the door to Wysteria was open on the Test Realm.
There was also a scoop from IGN on the patcher. Ahh, KingsIsle, that's some good media coverage. The IGN crowd was like "people play this game?"
laugh. Keep it up, KingsIsle! IGN is right there with Kotaku, 1Up, Gamespot, and all the other premium game reporting sites. That's some awesome candy for the marketing team.
On a few mini-breaks at work, I'd tune in to my own Twitter stream and watched as Uber Wife and Amber took over and started posting a ton of pictures from the test realm. Quite awesome to actually see Wysteria since all I had seen before this were words.
Yeah, I've been under embargo about Wysteria since the next Beckett's article talks about it. :) That's also why the day before yesterday I couldn't participate in any theorycrafting about what the new content might be . . . since, well, I already knew what it was. BUT had I not known, I wouldn't have been able to guess what it was. A new door on the spiral like this is a complete surprise, right? I would have guessed they would be doing something with that fifth floating island in Krokotopia.
Yup! I had a great time playing through the first area or so with Myrna last night.
This whole world just feels like Easter to me for some strange reason . . . perhaps the bunnies and pastels? Nah! Must be some other reason. I wonder if there could be an Easter event in Wysteria next year? could be fun!
Amber went on yesterday to complete the main storyline in Wysteria and earned her spiral cup!
Nicely done, daughter. You rock! Didn't seem to take her too long with all the power of level 60 behind her, but Uber Wife made the comment that perhaps it would be a difficult challenge for someone in their 20's (especially the fight against Kisai Shugenja where he keeps putting up a 90% tower shield)? I'm not sure. I don't know if I have a character currently in that level range. hmm!
So is it just me or do the new areas that KingsIsle is releasing seem to be getting smaller and smaller? I wonder if that means that eventually they'll unleash a huge monster of a world so we can finally fight Morganthe?
My main question when I saw the name Wysteria was, "Why does KingsIsle keep naming worlds after My little pony characters?"
. . . word to the bronies. :p I'm just kidding by the way . . . I think they are a completely separate phenomenon, kind of like crop circles and aliens. O.o
Anyway, as it so happens, today is my birthday! Thanks for the gift of Wysteria KingsIsle. ;) And thanks to my old pal Cassandra over at Witchwarrior for this cool birthday gift portrait.
There we go! The family collectively now has one legendary wizard for each class.
Pictured from Left to Right: Myrna (Ice), Kyle (Storm), Amber (Life), Thomas (Death), Bailey (Fire), Iridian (Balance), and Rowan (Myth). All Level 60.
Yes! At long last, Myrna has secured her Snow Angel spell.
That's a cool tanking spell there, isn't it? Too bad it takes eight pips to get there, but no matter! It's a cool spell regardless. I love how it works a bit like Fire Dragon for fire wizards only with an additional taunt component.
I'd love to hear some recommendations on using that spell from the ice wizards in the house!
The battle to get Snow Angel was not as bad as some I've completed, but it was still a nice long fight with some hairy moments, and by hairy I mean furry!
Awww, get over here Volkir and give us a hug!
Andrew Dragonshade had some wisdom to add before the fight, and it was a good strategy. Use minions. AND use minions I did! I think by the end of the fight I had used three of them to be exact.
I'd add to that strategy that, once again, I'm totally amazed at the power of the Treant polymorph. Best reason to polymorph!
Soon after the fight it was just a hop skip and a teleport (since Myrna never completed Grizzleheim) over to the ledge here in Ravenscar, and the flying table napkin had arrived to say hello.
Thank you table napkin head! You never cease to creep me out.
As you can see we even invited Alric to the party. hehe.
The Boom Kids are now on the Science Center and are ready to rock it out. We're getting close to finishing up Celestia again and reaching legendary with three more wizards.
It's time for a quick catch up on what The Friendly Necromancer and family have been up to in game.
The big news for us is that Myrna and Iridian finished Dragonspyre!
You'll notice in that picture that Myrna is showing her Master of Ice badge instead of her GM badge, that's because she wasn't a GM . . . kind of makes sense doesn't it? And, wait, Iridian *is* a GM?! What the heck? Now my wife is uber times two-ber! That's right, she's got herself a second GM. BOOM!
What, Friendly? What are you doing? Your wife has two GM's and you only have one? Well fear not! Shortly after beating Malistaire, I cleaned up a few sidequests, and now I have my second GM!!! (You know, aside from Kyle and Amber who I basically leveled . . . but my wife maintains that those are the kids' characters and therefore she had two GM's before me . . . lol. Kids, a short lesson in the politics of marriage, the woman is always right.)
You better believe I'm saving up some training points for Celestia . . .
Anyway, Uber Wife also has been working a bit on her crafting with Iridian and Bailey. She has her sights set on that new Grizzleheim crafted house. Watch out world!
And she's been spelunking through Grizzleheim as well! Iridian has finished Grizzleheim (shout out to Blaze Mistshard), and Bailey is right behind her.
And that's really all we've been up to aside from hanging out in the test realm doing the new stuff.
I think I need to finish leveling my other Life Wizard, Molly, so I can say I have three GMs. She's kind of stalled at level 48 right now. HA! Then I could say, TAKE THAT UBER WIFE!
So what's up for the husband and wife team now that we've beat Dragonspyre a couple of times? We're going to level a couple of Myth wizards that we have tucked away: Isaiah Taleslinger and Rowan Ravenshard!
They're both in their low 20's and hanging out in the second area of Krokotopia at the moment.
1- Just as a refresher, the end date for the petnome contest is approaching! Keeping plunking in those entries! Remember you have until midnight 15 June Pacific time to make an entry!
2- Stop decorating your houses and start decorating your dorm room! Paige (my good buddy MeCatz) is holding a contest where you need to decorate your dorm room with 5 specific items. You need to get screenshots or video submitted by June 28, 2010 at 9:00 PM Central US time.
3- The new Xbox will be called not Project Natal but Kinect apparently. Not that you care, oh uncaring ones. Not that I care either. /shrug How do I know this? It seems to have been an early leak from E3. I picked it up from people gabbing amongst themselves in Twitter.
4- Yes, E3 is just a day away. If you're looking for E3 Twitter for information, I think most people are going to be following @E3Expo (or #E32010 ?). I highly doubt Wizard101 will reveal anything at E3 or be a big part of the expo. From what I've noticed, they don't do many expos or industry shows outside of AGDC. BUT, if you remember they did promise us a cool new quest would be coming out. I think that data loss last week really knocked the wind out of them and took pretty much all their efforts to overcome.
5- Molly made level 48! WOOTS!
I took a good chunk of Friday and leveled her up on sidequests including the infamous Mossback quest chain. That's just a ton of EXP there. I got an idea to make a Mossback quest video that could be strange funny. Strange funny can be good. Either way, I got a question from an anonymous poster that asked, "Hey Friendly. I have a question. I had a quest leading up to the Crazed Forest Spirit guy, but now it's missing! And I haven't beaten it yet! I will never get a Crab!!!!! Why did this happen!?!?!?!?" Just go back to my thread and try to follow it. Know that once you complete one of the quests for mossback in a particular zone, he doesn't give you a follow on quest to meet him in a different zone for the remainder of the quests. You have to hunt him down and find his yellow exclamation point.
6- Ravenwood Radio is coming up on Wednesday. I don't have a segment yet. Suggestions?
7- I'm starting to want to get Final Fantasy 13 for Father's Day. I kind of got sucked in by this film of these Japanese peeps getting all excited about it. I want to be this excited about it too. (Side note, I own Final Fantasy 2 for the super Nintendo /giggle)
8- Myrna had a good bout of Derby Racing with a teenage bloodbat (or you call it mythbat if you're cool ;)) that won her pet veteran status.
It was hilarious (or frustrating) to watch my mythbat smoking teenage level 48 pets. Myrna then scored a striped boar with her tickets, and I decided to race that as well. The boar did, hmmm, ok, so I earned enough tickets to buy another one. I think I'll level that one and see if one of the ultra-rare derby talents manifests. Then I'll have two for combines. Wee!
9- You may have noticed the pet and housing lists have reappeared at the top of the screen. If not, hey! LOOK AT THAT!
10- HYBRID SIGHTING! I do believe this is the archfiend?
11- It looks like the second chance chests are giving out money instead of second chances. Anybody else notice this?
12- I gotta go to work! Catch you all on the flip side!
Ok, so the truth of the matter is that I'm an early bird type of a person, and my wife is a late night type of a person. I woke up this morning with a couple of surprises waiting for me in the picture folder.
Surprise 1:
HAHA! Iridian and Myrna played a lot of Dragonspyre this weekend. We worked through all of Plaza of Conquests and The Grand Chasm, and we started working The Drake Hatchery as well. The last thing I remember was that Myrna was really freaking close to level 42 . . . like maybe only 10% left to go. Well, it looks like uber wife was busy with my character. HAHA!
THANKS UBER WIFE!
Surprise 2:
Yeah, I woke up to two mysterious eggs with a 14 hour timer on Thomas Lionblood. The dye shop revealed them to be storm cats. HAHAHA! The wife played my character and got me two stormcats from Herkir last night! WOOT!
Uber Wife and I decided to work a bit more on our Myrna and Iridian team this weekend. We had put them to the side to finish up Dragonspyre with Molly and Bailey. Myrna (my character) needed to do a little catch-up to Iridian (uber wife's character), and this involved earning her Iceblade and a number of levels.
Yay, I got a visit from a colossus!
Yay, Iceblade *and* a level up! It doesn't get much better than that.
Even after all that, Myrna is still behind Iridian on levels, but that's because she's been busy completing all her sidequests, like the Mossback series in Mooshu.
Uber wife is uber.
So, blah blah blah, it took a bit of doing, but after a few hours of play, Myrna was ready for the Tree of Life Instance and Jade Oni. These went relatively fast, and before we knew it, we were fighting Cyrus Drake. Together.
Ok, here's where I'm confused. I remember fighting Cyrus Drake with Thomas back when Dragonspyre went live, and I remember doing that fight with a few strangers (You can see that in the video on this blogpost). THEN, I had to fight Cyrus Drake with Amber and Kyle separately for some reason. I also had to fight Cyrus with Molly and Bailey separately. Then for some reason Myrna and Iridian were able to fight him side by side? What the heck? It's weird because you can't port in to a Cyrus Drake fight, and it appears that if you enter the myth tower at the same time, then you'll have to fight him separately. BUT, if you have one character go into the fight and start it, then wait a couple minutes and enter with your other character, then they can join in the fight . . . but only if they are both flagged for the fight? OH MY WORD SO WEIRD. Why would it be coded like that?
Sorry, I digress.
Um, the important thing here at the end of the day was that . . . TADA . . . we won and Myrna and Iridian are now rocking the Dragonspyre scene.
BOOMZAKALAKA! YOU KNOW IT! AND, Iridian dinged 45 to boot (check out the clothing swap on Iridian there between the two pictures above).
Hey, Friendly. It's Liam F. I gots a question. What is the point of Hildreth Pertch? Is it like the final Ice Quest? Please reply!
Well Hildreth Pertch sounded familiar, but I didn't know right off the top of my head, so I did a couple of web searches and found out that Hildreth "Pertch" (it's actually "Perch") is a place, not a person . . . or is it?
Hildreth Perch is that little ledge to the right of the entrance to the Gobbler King's Palace. (you know, kind of near where you found the smith for your Wizard City Zeke quest, y'all.)
It appears this question was asked over at Wizard101.com in their forums already, and it sounds like perhaps at one time there was an icon for an NPC near Hildreth Perch.
Now, the hidden trainer that's by Mindy Pixiecrown is named Mildreth . . . it just leads one to believe that perhaps Hildreth could be the sister of Mildreth, no? There are kooky parents out there who like to rhyme their kids' names, sure!
Also, you are absolutely correct that Hildreth Perch is an area used in the final level 48 ice quest! It appears as though Professor Greyrose asks you to go there to summon an ice titan.
Myrna longs for a frost giant spell in her spellbook. (She's only level 33 right now)
Oh, one more thing: Notice that when you approach the perch, it tells you that it's "Hildreth's Perch" and on the map it tells you it's "Hildreth Perch" . . . methinks they either need to drop the apostrophe S in one or add it to the other. /wink BUT if it *is* Hildreth's Perch, then perhaps Hildreth is an NPC that they removed from the game? Interesting.
The wife and I have been busy! YES! Yes we have. A week or so ago, the Bobsi Twins (or Molly and Bailey) took down Meowiarty with the help of Leesha Darkheart of Ravenwood Radio fame and Wolf Redfist, our new found level 50 buddy!
That ended extremely well and the Bobsi Twins rocked out of Marleybone in a big way.
Next up was the odd couple, Iridian and Myrna.
And guess what happened?
I said guess!?
Well, yeah, there was some dancing, but Iridian got the Krok pet from her first try on the second chance chest!
Well worth the 50 crowns spent there . . . and on a balance wizard nonetheless!
I decided today that I need to catch Myrna up to my wife's character, Iridian, since that sneaky Iridian is in Marleybone now. So that means a lot of quick killing with the Myrna and Kyle team. As of today's efforts, Myrna is now in the Temple of Storms!
On her way through the Emperor's Retreat, Myrna picked up a great little bowl from Prince Kebi Sokkwi. It's today's item of the day!
Doesn't it go great on her table there? Attractive hieroglyphics adorning its rim, this piece is sure to create the comment, "nice bowl" from your friends.
