Seeing that wonderful fella strumming on a lute makes me absolutely certain he's playing one of my favorite lute pieces of all time: John Downland's Come Again.

Thus speaketh the Friendliest of Necromancers!

p.s. Word on the street that this world is Avalon? That's the going guess at least, yo. :)

Call for Spell of the Week - 11 & 12 December 2011

Ok, we had an easy one last week. This week I'm giving you something a little bit more challenging to cast, in fact, a lot more challenging.

Mander Blast

This spell is a sub-spell of the Polymorph Mander spell. It's like a mystery wrapped in an enigma! And, to make things worse, the Polymorph Mander treasure card is one that you can't buy and sell at the bazaar, and it isn't for sale in the Science Center or Zafaria library. PLUS, most people sell the ones they do get off because, it's not a very popular card. At least this spell of the week is a pat on the back for those that were forced to pick up the Polymorph Mander on their way down the Moon School line. :D (it does have it's uses though, don't get me wrong. The blade buffs from Polymorph Mander will make you popular with just about anybody in a group setting. I just wish Polymorph Mander had a judgement card in its mix. It would make casting Polymorph Mander about 100 times more popular.)

I love this spell though, I mean, who doesn't want to see a mander breathe fire on someone? Have fun with it!

Here's a sample screenshot to get you thinking:

So send a screenshot of the mander blast to thefriendlynecromancer@gmail.com by tomorrow night (12 December 2011), and I'll put your picture on my blog here on Tuesday 13 December! Thanks in advance for participating!

All ya gotta do is take a picture of this frosty fella in combat and send it to thefriendlynecromancer@gmail.com sometime today or tomorrow (4 or 5 December 2011), and (barring any questionable language in the screenshot) I'll add your pic to the walls of TFN!

Here's a sample shot to get you thinking.

Hope to see your awesome spells in my inbox!

Loving the Armor Designs!

I know I'm a little late on this news, but have you all seen the designs that ended up winning the contest?

Those are so incredibly awesome! Wonder if that girl's bird costume design would come with a built in mount? I'm also wondering what the opposite gender of each of those might look like? Fun!

Click here to check out all the different designs (I wouldn't mind wearing any of those LOL). I'm hearing KingsIsle received an enormous amount of entries from Wizard101 fans. They had to use giant folder after giant folder after giant folder to keep them all cataloged in their fan art collection. Awesome.

I wonder if they'll ever break those out in the future to gain some inspiration from their fans if there was some kind of recurring theme? Hmmm!

Mannnnnnny wonderings!

Congrats to the winners!

New House, New Card Pack, New Halloween Craziness!!

News broke today that there was a new card pack in the crowns shop after the longish patch and maintenance this morning. You can read all about the new Nightmare card pack and Halloween goodies from KingsIsle over on the main page.

I was lamenting earlier in the month about how bland the Hallowe'en celebration had become from when we first saw it three years ago. (Also, did you peeps notice that KI is now calling this "Halloweenfest" instead of "Hallowe'en" like they used to? Kind of weird, wish they would have called it something other than "fest," you know? Doesn't seem very creative. Then again, I guess it's better than Halloween-a-palooza, right?) With the new card pack and this new jungle-themed house, we totally got a one-two KO punch today; Halloweenfest is looking more awesome now! Although, I'd love to duel that Spooky Bob for cool Halloween prizes. BRING IT SPOOKY BOB!

First up, let's talk about this new mega giftcard house. Lionrider King is already taking credit for the Zebrifica idea. Hey! I don't blame him! If I had come up with a Zebrifica world and saw this house, I'd do the same thing. ;) I'm just hoping there's a Bullrilla pet for me somewhere in all this excitement. :) Of course, Elie Akilian has been talking about going on Safari over on his Twitter since 8 Jan 2011. Nice, three tweets! LOL.

Bailey was invited to view Jack Skullsmith's house, giraffe pet, and mount by her friend Jason Thundershield this afternoon. Yeah, Uber Wife has connections like that. ;) She had a great time running around and taking pictures of all the amazing things about his jungle paradise.

Here's a picture of Jack on his two-seater mount.

Bailey had some troubles riding on this with Jack, even after adding him as a friend and in a group. Other people seemed to be able to jump on Jack's mount with him and ride around just fine, but it was buggy for Bailey. Hopefully that gets cleared up soon.

Here's another picture of Jack with his awesome Giraffe pet . . . 57 pedigree, hmm. Not too bad! Wonder what awesome talents that thing gets (also wonder what it looks like dancing!)

Apparently if you click on this Bazaar Tapestry, you're magically transported there! That's awesome! Ever since seeing the teleporters, something inside me has been saying, wish I could mark places around the spiral with those instead of just inside my house. Nice implementation there, KI!

The house also features a friendly gorilla who much like the genie in the Sultan's Palace will gift you with treasures once a day. He should be a bullrilla, but gorillas are ok. ;)

Check out the amazing attention to detail in this main room of the house and the awesome carved-looking Lion, Zebra, and Elephant heads adorning the upper tier of this room. Awesome. There's ample room in these houses for all your expert decorating needs.

Just amazing stuff there. The house has other tricks and surprises, and I'm sure I'll be finding more out about it here soon.

Next up is the Nightmare pack.

WOW! Look at this Nightmare mount you can get as a rare find!

That's Conner Mistblade who was dressed as the headless horseman today in his Sleepy Hallow themed house. :)

The Nightmare pack is coming in at 299 crowns, which is 100 crowns cheaper than the regular packs. It's mostly full of treasure cards, pet snacks, specter themed robes, spooky bob themed costumes, pets, broom mounts, and a few housing items. The nightmare mount is definitely the thing you want from those. :)

There I am! Surrounded by my housing items from the few nightmare packs I purchased today. Love that you can get the Halloween decorations now. :) Good news on those pet snacks (don't know if this is going to be changed in the near future or not), you can actually sell and buy some of those new high rank snacks at the bazaar. Be on the lookout for those!

Have fun with all your new surprises! I can't wait to see what KingsIsle has next for us.

Happy dueling!

New Stuff and KIfreegames.com Stuff

So the huge news that broke yesterday wasn't that I discovered my Beckett's Fun Online Games mag in the mail, no no no. The HUGE news yesterday was the teaser found in the Ravenwood Bulletin for August 2011.
"We've got some really exciting news coming up for you this month young Wizards, but I can't say too much yet or it'll spoil the surprise. Just know that there will be some new challenges for Wizards who are level 25 and up, and a brand new challenge for Wizards who thought Waterworks was difficult! Watch for more information coming very, very soon!"

What do you think it will be?

No theory-crafting from me, but I'm more than happy to hear what you all think it's going to be. :)

The second huge piece of news from the Ravenwood Bulletin was that KIFreegames.com has amped their loot table a second time in the past couple of months!
"We've listened to your feedback on the rewards at KIFreeGames and have removed transformations and mount rentals from the list of items you can win. We have added Seeds, better Snacks, different Pets, Permanent Mounts, new Housing Items, Booster Packs, better Elixirs and more items - but the best part is, you have a very rare chance at actually earning Crowns! That's right young Wizards, Crowns."
CROWNS!? /feint

I think it was Alric Ravensinger who logged on to Wizard101 last night and said something to me like, "KIfreegames.com is more addicting than gambling!" LOL. It's funny, people used to ask me why I always had a little gift icon down in the bottom left hand corner of my screen in all my screenshots. Didn't I want to redeem my gifts? Pffft, it was a huge overflow from all the prizes I was winning from the Wizardblox app, but that was back when the prizes weren't all that good and KIfreegames hadn't really caught on fire yet. I'm imagining quite a few of you are now suffering from the gift icon syndrome more than just me and the other iPhone/iPod peeps. :)

Happy dueling!

Pet-a-palooza Rocking the Spiral!

Yup! You heard me, pet-a-palooza has come to the spiral.

First thing you need to do is GO LOG IN because if you log in between June 6th 2011 and June 14th 2011, you'll get a free pet snack in your gift window! WOOT! FREE! I'm so good with free stuff. :)

The next thing you need to do is watch this video and pause that sucker at 14 seconds.

haha! It's Uncle Sam-eprachaun!

The official announcement is also in the game's patcher, so . . . you know . . . click that while you're loading up your game and read it.

I'm pretty sure we're all excited to find the new pets that will be arriving in the spiral. It's a good time, and I REALLY REALLY hope that these new pets will be added to the loot tables of bosses around the spiral. I'm thinking that's usually per normal . . . if it's a crowns item, it's also on the loot table of a boss around the spiral.

. . . side note . . .

So today over Twitter I mentioned that I was in attendance at the very first Lollapalooza, which is where the whole "palooza" term originated AFAIK. I mentioned that it'd be awesome for KingsIsle to release a "Siouxsie Banshee" as a pet. ;-) Why? What? Huh?

Oh it was just a reference to Siouxsie and the Banshee's that was one of the acts from that first Lollapalooza. haha.

I'm really showing my age. ;-) (Also, I want the punk at :38 seconds to be one of the new pets too . . . or a Henry Rollins pet . . . .)

FW: Who is Wintertusk's Mystery Composer?

This just came across the newswire from the fine folks at Kingsisle!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
PLANO, TEXAS (APRIL 28, 2011) - KingsIsle Entertainment, creators of the
award-winning online game Wizard101, announced today that the soundtrack
for its upcoming expansion world, Wintertusk, was composed by one of the
hottest young musical talents in the entertainment industry. Over the
course of several weeks the company plans to provide hints about the
composer's identity, culminating in a final reveal timed to Wintertusk's
launch later this spring.
"This is a cool idea, because our mystery composer has a huge name in
the music business but has never created music for a video game," said
J. Todd Coleman, vice president and creative director of Wizard101. "I'm
really impressed by this artist's adaptability and talent. I think our
players are going to be very surprised and totally blown-away."
To create the soundtrack for Wintertusk, the mystery artist composed
seven original pieces of music, each representing a different facet of
the upcoming epic storyline. Additional information about the world of
Wintertusk can be found at https://www.wizard101.com/game/april2011.
Wintertusk continues the storyline that began in the icy world of
Grizzlehiem, offering a variety of challenges for accomplished Wizards
and fantastic rewards such as new spells, high-level pets and exclusive
loot. For lower-level players the expansion brings back the underwater
realm of Crab Alley, continuing the story of the Crab King, newly
returned from his musical world tour.
. . .
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Awesome! I wonder who the mystery composer is? Any ideas? Part of me
is thinking it's Eric Bloom?

**Update** oh yeah, didn't catch "hottest young musical talents" on my first read of that ... Definitely NOT Eric Bloom. Taylor Swift? **Update**

Leave your thoughts below!
