Heya! I've got a question here from Nick:
"I've been farming a boss for 2 days now for a pet called Zombie it looks like Grubb but umm
Is it confirmed to be dropped?
Thanks for sending a message, Nick. Yes, the zombie pet is confirmed to be dropped by a boss named Grendel Madlings.
A good way to know something is verified as dropped is by checking out the player-made wiki for the item: Zombie Pet. Knowing KingsIsle as I do, there really would be no reason we'd ever remove this pet from a loot table . . . on purpose. And to be honest, I highly doubt anyone has modified or even thought about the Grendel Madlings boss in years, so I'd give it a 99% assurance that it still drops. Also, taking a look at that player-made wiki page, it also looks like it drops from the Purreau's Plentiful Pet Provisions Pack. That should make it quite a bit more available out in the wild.
To be honest, your best bet is probably signing up to a site like Wizard101 Central and asking if someone has one to hatch with you, like this person did back in 2014. Wizard101 Central has a super active pet hatching group and I'm also about 99% sure someone there would hatch with you if you post in the Pet Mixing Meetups forum. Or alternatively try using the #W101 hashtag on Twitter to see if anyone could help.
Hope that helps and best of luck with your pet hunt!
Happy Dueling!

KI Live, Vine, and Freddy Nine Lives?
So I've got a few things for you here this morning.
1- KI Live for February was a lot of fun, and here's the YouTube for it:
As always, it's a lot of fun interacting with the community and sharing the news with Leala and #JuliafromKI. :)
~~
2- I made a few game humor vines on Saturday for kicks. Thought I'd share them here for you. (You can toggle on the sound by clicking the volume control in the bottom right hand corner)
Pirate101:
I love those street sweepers!
Wizard101:
Watch where you're going, Wizards!
Guild Wars 2:
I've been playing a lot of GW2 lately with a few of my friends. Dance parties will happen! (What's up with random bear? I love random bear!)
DC Universe Online:
hehe . . . gotta love when the interact animation. If you haven't played this game, the joke may fall short.
~~
3- I got a question from Valdus Silverdust, our up and coming necromancer! His question is this, "Hiya Friendly! only 2 levels away from getting Animate, But, I'm stuck, so i
need to fight Freddy Nine Lives 9 times, right? so i am wondering, can i have
some tips on him?"
Sounds like you're doing great, Valdus! Keep at it!
Honestly, it's been so long since I fought Freddy Nine Lives that I had to look him up. hehe. Now that I've looked at his page on the Wiki, it's all coming back to me. Freddy wasn't really too tough if I remember right . . . it was just kind of annoying (and also kind of cool) that you had to fight him nine times to get your spell.
Looking at his spell list, it appears the real spells you have to watch out for are his out-of-school cards that he casts like lightning bats and sunbird. If you're struggling with these spells, it might be worth it to stop off at the Bazaar and pick up a few Volcanic Shield Treasure Cards.
Also, as a side note, I was kind of shocked when a co-worker of mine had no idea he had a free death shield spell available to him from Sabrina Greenstar (you get a free shield of your class type, e.g. Death Wizards get a Death Shield, Storm Wizards get a Storm Shield, etc.). If you haven't picked up that card yet, make sure you visit her in the Fairgrounds section of the Wizard City Commons.
You'll also be well served by using your Death Prism spell against Freddy Nine Lives because he is a rank 4 death boss that will be weak against life magic.
Hang in there and stick with it, and hopefully you wont' have to spend . . . wait for it . . . five nights at freddy nine lives . . . before you beat it. *winces*
Best of luck and Happy Dueling!

5 Things about me
I got tagged by Stephen Spiritcaller, Chrissy the Blesser, and Sheldon over Twitter for the 5 things meme.
1- Back in 2006? 2007? I got tagged in a meme that asked you to share 100 things about you. I typed up 75 or so things and gave up for two reasons. 1- dang it's hard to type out 100 things about yourself. 2- I read something somewhere that warned against doing the meme because you have the potential to give away important information about who you are -- Sure enough, I have protected my password plenty of times with little things that were on that list. I'm kind of glad I never published it.
2- I used to want to be a rockstar. Seriously. I self-published and made mass quantities of two tapes and one CD of music between 1990-1996 and wrote several unfinished/finished songs. The whole collection of music can be found on a series of 10 or so 90-minute tapes. I need to archive it all digitally some day, but the project seems daunting to me. I still write music from time to time.
3- I used to want to be a poet. I have a binder somewhere with several poems I wrote, but most of my poetry was better heard than read. Back around 1996 to sometime in the 2000's I started attending slams at a local book store and started winning free gift certificates at the slams. The most money I ever made as a poet was winning a college level poetry slam for a whopping $100. I rarely write poetry anymore, but someday I hope I can get back into it.
4- I was a Toastmaster for a year. If you ever want to get into public speaking, join this group. It will give you a lot of opportunities to listen to people speak and get you in front of other people. They ring a bell every time you say "um." They give you great advice. They give awards for doing a good job. It's also pretty cheesy. I'm glad I did it, but I don't think I would want to go back and join the club a second time. The main reason I even joined was because an old acquaintance of my father talked me into it. My dad had so much respect for him, and the guy was pretty awesome. Both he and my father are passed away now. Both rocked the mic. Both were great story tellers.
5- I memorized the patterns for beating Pacman from the inside sleeve of the record "Pacman Fever" as a kid and used to be pretty awesome at the game because of it. Most of my friends seemed to die out before they even hit the apple level. I was able to get up to the ninth key level -- after you get to a point in Pacman, the game just starts giving you keys. I've forgotten all the patterns and I probably couldn't recreate the magic, but it was something as a kid that made me feel both nerdy and awesome at the same time.
I'm not going to nominate anyone because I'm pretty sure they've all been nominated! ;) Sorry it took so long for me to write this up.

At long last . . . Grub Guardian
Sometimes KingsIsle just doesn't say a word. You know? It's not very often, mind you, that a press release or a community leader note doesn't show up when something new happens in game, but today was one of those days. I'm sure the announcement will happen in the next few days, but the most I've heard about Grub Guardian up to this point from KingsIsle has been, "It'll be done, when it's done." Well guess what . . . it's done--or at least close to being done. :)
I was casually browsing Twitter when I saw a few tweets about Grub Guardian being "live" from the awesome #twizard people. I immediately went to kifreegames.com and indeed found a Grub Guardian game on the site with a "beta" note by it, but it seemed to be working just fine, and before you know it, I was playing up my pets outside the confines of Wizard101.
I was bummed when I found out it actually wasn't in the game yet, just on KIFreeGames. I was also bummed when I found it wasn't in the appstore for my iPhone. Then again, perhaps kifreegames.com is the perfect place to run a beta like this.
If you're looking for Grub Guardian guides, there's already a dozen threads going over on Wizard101 Central. :)
Basically, Grub Guardian is a Tower Defense Game. You stack up your different types of guardians (each from a different school of magic) and they blast away at the hordes of baddies pouring forth and heading for your pet's food at the end of the trail.
What's extra cool is that your pet actually plays a part in the tower defense and at the end of the game, they gain pet experience and can even be fed pet snacks from your in game inventory (if you decide to play that way instead of for prize codes).

This can in fact lead to leveling your pet (although you don't really get to see what skills they gained . . . you have to log in to do that).

If you do really well at a level of Grub Guardian, you'll end up unlocking new, more difficult levels of play.

It's a ton of fun and can be really challenging. Once you develop a pattern of where to place your spells on the map and which spells to upgrade along the way, I'm sure it will become a lot easier. I expect YouTube videos of the patterns to be forthcoming any moment now. LOL.
Oh ok fine . . . let me be the first . . .
Woot! Oasis level done! Whew, now if I can just keep going. Some of these levels are tough!

Day 2 in Austin -- video delayed
Heya all!
I'm having a great time here. I hope you've been reading my twitters. I will probably have some good ones from GDC itself later today.
I have three interviews lined up this morning, and I actually need to get going to the conference (and don't really have time to blog much).
I did get some great video footage of the Kingsisle offices and some interesting surprises that are in store for all of us soon. The footage is so good in fact, that I need to get approval of most of it before I show it to you all. I'll be hunting down Ben, KI's PR Guru, this afternoon to get his approval. The earliest you might see some of this footage is tomorrow or Friday.
I had a wonderful time yesterday at GDC, and I expect that today will be just as awesome.
Peace, love, and happy dueling!

Pet . . . mania . . . has . . . begun
Ok, I'm at work, I take a little break and twitter a couple things . . . go back to work and an hour passes . . . Bailey calls me.
"PEOPLE ARE GOING INSANE OVER THE PETS!"
I do the whole, "wha, wha?" thing.
Check Twitter again.
EXPLOSIONS OF TEXT MESSAGES ARE SPLASHING AGAINST ME LIKE A TIDAL WAVE OF INFORMATION!

So I retweet about five of the messages and start watching the clock . . . COME ON CLOCK!
Drive home.
Hop on the computer.
BOOMZAHSIRZAH!
Check it out, now, don't even read the rest of the post if you haven't watched this. Come back afterwards.
. . .
Ok, I've grabbed a few stills from the video itself. Let's look at some of this.

This is a firezilla pet running around in a pac-man like maze collecting power dots of some sort. It's obviously some kind of mini-game for your pet where you assume control of your pet and drive it around the maze. I love that I can become my pet. We kind of all knew that was going to happen, but seeing it is believing it. I wonder exactly what the goal of this game is? Will it be to get from the start to the end or is it going to be more like a pac-man type game where something is chasing you? Will it get progressively harder? I'm interested in seeing how this maze game is actually implemented.

This to me looks like a ghoul pet being launched out of a cannon into a target. I love it. I'm instantly reminded of the Toon Town party cannons. I wonder if we'll be competing against other people in a target game or if this is a solo challenge. I'd hope that it was a multiplayer experience since, you know, this is an MMO. (I love the tree that's a stand up target to the side. hehe) BULLSEYE! I'd love to have a cow pet from mooshu and say that as I shot him through the air at the target . . . jus' sayin'.

Ok, there were tons of shots in the video of pets hanging out in houses and dorm rooms. It appeared as if you could call your pets to you. Awesome. I can't wait to unleash my five pages of pets into my house. This is a direct request that many people made on the pet thread that started a year ago on central. Good call, KI. BTW, CHECK THE SKELETAL PIRATE PET OUT, YO! TAKE THAT HATERS! WORD! ;-) Also, is there something strange looking about that ghost pet in the back or is it just me?

Here we have what must be a NEW pet. It's a Freddy Nine Lives running the new derby race. You hear that? FREDDY NINE LIVES PET? TAKE THAT CAT HATERS! I would love to have a Freddy Nine Lives pet. hehehe. It's good to see that the pets are running on their legs as "exercise" instead of driving cars. I like that. It makes more "sense" to me.

What, pray tell, is Merle doing in the Storm School here? Could it be that storm magic is what is causing all this advanced pet mania? I think so. Obviously we've seen Dr. Katzenstein (or his more sociable counterpart) using the power of electricity to channel pets into an egg. I wonder if Merle will be sending us first to the storm school on our quests for this new found magic of increasing and modifying the powers of our pets.
. . .
Honestly, I can't wait for this to hit the game. I'm pretty sure that over the next few months pet farming is going to be huge. I'M PROPETS Y'ALL!
As I've tried to communicate in the past, this expansion really will bring something wonderful to the spiral. Count on it.
Happy Dueling!

Old Man Merle AND Malistaire vs. Friendly?
Ok, so, listen. Apparently the gauntlet has been thrown down and Blaze Duskblade is calling for a vote. The Friendly Necromancer (and his family apparently) vs. Malistaire and Merle Ambrose.
Sure it's an impossible question. How could I even pick a fight with the man? Malistaire? Pffft, I'm not even worried about Malistaire. Ambrose, meh, when have we even seen him fight before. He doesn't fight with you in the tutorial but somehow he had the ability to strengthen you outside the battle circle so you could stand up against a couple draconians . . . and that was it.
You know, and not to mention that I don't totally adore J. Todd Coleman, who is the Kingsisle employee that *is* the physical embodiment of Merle Ambrose. I mean, sure, I've stalked his twitters before, and yeah I have a poster of Malistaire above my computer with Ambrose's signature on it.

Why would I even want to pick a fight with Ambrose? I wouldn't!
On the other hand, the only time I've seen J. Todd Coleman really interface 1v1 with the fans was wayyyy back when they had the duel a dev feature. He got beat. Of course he was facing off against Angel Dragongem (not Alex Jaderider, my favorite all time pvp'er . . . I would have liked to have seen that). So if J Todd Coleman is at the controls, he's not *impossible* to beat. right? I know, it's a stretch.
So, impossible situations aside, the gauntlet was thrown. Who would win?
I've been getting my behind smoked over there in the poll, so I had to post Ambrose's secret weakness. Let me quote from about the third page of the thread:
"OK, wait . . . I hate to tell you guys this, but I was cleaning out Gamma's bird cage the other day when I was in detention, and he totally told me about Ambrose's weakness . . . so . . . apparently Ambrose has a weakness for not being able to attack you if you're wearing the Unicorn Way badge. I think I may pull out a win now."

HA!
So, let's see what happens if I get a little voting support from my readers, eh? Click here and ROCK THE VOTE!
(Side note: this question really is hilarious . . . It's like I'm starting to gain Chuck Norris status here on Wizard101 or something. Who'd win . . . Friendly or a pack of wild ninja pigs wearing spike armor with 100% death resists. Friendly. Who'd win . . . Friendly or a giant mutant mosquito with the Green Lantern riding on his back. Friendly.)

Daily twitter updates?
So it appears our friends at Kingsisle are on fire with Twitter updates. They are apparently shooting them out at one a day since Monday. This is awesome! This, to me, is exactly what I've been hoping would happen at Kingsisle. Each one of these twitters is basically like a press release a day. It's what they should be doing!
Let's take a quick look at these recent twitters:
Monday's twitter is good to hear. The $60 promotion is what I originally signed up under last year. BTW, we're approaching that one year mark for Wizard101. September 2nd was the first day of Wizard101 if I remember right, so that offer comes with perfect timing for those of us who took the $60 offer last year.
Tuesday's twitter is a link to Stargrace's blog. hehe. Tipa at West Karana was so jealous of Stargrace when she found out about Stephanie's talk with Eric Bloom. I follow both of them on twitter. There was definitely some /envy going on.
Wednesday's twitter was a huge BOOM of awesomeness. Have you guys looked through all the great information that Warcry has on our game now? I tried to get Professor Greyrose to offer up some quotes about the Warcry site, but the marketing department at Kingsisle wasn't biting.
Today's promotion is interesting. Basically, from what I'm reading, is that if you're a member of Central, you win . . . as long as more than 25,000 people become new fans of Wizard101 on Facebook. Awesome. More fans = better reward for Central members.
Basically, it's been a fantastic week of twitters for Wizard101 fans. I hope they keep this up! Thanks for all the news, KI!
Happy Dueling!
Let's take a quick look at these recent twitters:

• Tuesday = Wizard101: Did you know Eric Bloom of Blue Oyster Cult plays Wizard101? http://tinyurl.com/lm2vgf
• Wednesday = Wizard101: Wizard101 is now on WarCry! http://bit.ly/3J9Nl6
• Thursday (today) = Wizard101: Check out our new Facebook contest on Wizard101 Central and enter to win special prizes! http://tinyurl.com/nsso4x

J. Todd Coleman's Twitters
So there were a few really interesting twitters from J. Todd Coleman yesterday and the day before . . . let's look at them, shall we?
The first to come across was this one:
Of course, I was ALL over that and basically twittered back asking what kind of new combat prototype, hehe. You know, inquiring minds want to know . . . to which he responded simply:
Oh I so don't know how to read that wink! Do you know how to read that wink? I so don't know how to read that wink.
Next was this twitter:
