ROCK THE VOTE!

Calling all Wizard101 fans! Yeah you! You know who you are!

Well, I don't know about you guys, but I love Wizard101, and I plan on rocking the vote in this poll since its been such a great game for me and my family:

http://www.mmorpg.com/showFeature.cfm/loadFeature/4070/LFG-Expo-Award-Nomination-User-Voting.html

Here's the catch with mmorpg.com . . . you have to be 18 to register for the website. Personally, I think that puts our game at a disadvantage from the get-go, so we're going to need all the support we can get to get our game noticed by the big boys. You know what I'm saying?

The only thing that's kind of weird here is that you have to do a lot of clicky clicky to get your way around that voting poll, and after you log in you may need to click on that link again to get where you wanted to go for voting. You have to click the radio button to the side of Wizard101 to vote for it. AND, you have to scroll down after clicking the radio button to click to the next page to get to the next voting category. That's a lot of clicky!

The only category that I couldn't honestly vote for Wizard101 was best cinematic, and I didn't really have a good answer for that one . . . so I said Guild Wars LOL. EVERYTHING ELSE though, I felt like I could honestly say Wizard101 rocked the house in 2009.

You have until April 30th, so let the voting commence!

GO WIZARD101!!

How do I solo towers as a Fire Wizard?

Question from the fred of firepants:
Hello there Friendly!

This is me, Fred Firepants. I have a question for you.

Do you have any tips for soloing annoying towers? What spells to use to finish off mobs?

Lol, I should probably ask a fire wizard, but I'm feeling random so you score a question =P

I'm trying the bladed helephant on each enemy but should I try a AoE spell instead? Like a firebladed elementalbladed Meteor Strike?

Thanks!
Yessir, those towers in Dragonspyre are very mean!

So much taunt.

Ok, here's my little tips to help you survive towers when you're not a Death wizard. LOL. We get it easy since our final attack is also a heal.

1- Shields. It's hard to kind of plan what type of monster you're going to go up against, but shields help so much with blocking damage. If you can alternate shielding and blading and shielding and trapping, then you're doing great.

2. Heal. Always bring a full set of potion bottles with you. The goal at the end of a fight in a tower is always always to be as close to full health as you can get before moving on to the next floor. Sometimes that means that you have to have a fight extend a little bit so you can reach that goal of healing right before killing, and that can be really hard when you see a card in your hand and you're ready to defeat that mob . . . and yet you have to wait for it so you can heal yourself. You know? Patience is so key in towers when in there solo . . . aaaand when that isn't possible, potion bottle. Use them sparingly, but use them! Yup.

3. Damage. When I play a Fire Wizard out in the open, I'm kind of fond of a bladed scald under a wildfyre aura. Although your monsters get a couple extra rounds while they burn, you also get a couple extra rounds to heal or choke them. Towers on the other hand, attacking single targets with something like firezilla or helephant to take them out one at a time may be more to your advantage as the more opponents out on the battlefield, the more damage is potentially being done to you. It's much easier to shield and heal against one opponent than two.

4. Minion. So your minion does a couple things, but mostly it traps, blades, and casts fire elf and fire cat. I'm a fan of the minion myself because they usually take the attention off of me even if for a little bit by one of those creatures. Yeah, it's a pain when they blow one of your traps on a boss fight, but for the trash on the levels of a tower . . . LOVE thy minion. I also like how they seem to just push mobs over the edge with their little attacks when my scald or other attack wasn't quite enough.

5. Treasure Cards. If you're not using your treasure cards, you're not playing with a full deck, yo. There's a number of ways of doing this, but mainly you either load your treasure deck up with heals, shields, or damage attacks. Treasure cards increase the predictability of the battle, so use them to your advantage. It's better to discard one card and draw a treasure card than to sit and blindly discard trying to find the card you need.

6. Don't solo. Seriously! You're a popular guy, Fred! Use that to your advantage! :-)

And that's about all I got. Maybe one of my readers (who have been awesome filling in the gaps in my knowledge lately btw) will have some extra tips for soloing towers as a fire wizard.

Hope that helps, Mr. Firepants! Nice poem btw.

Should I base my secondary class around elemental blade?

Question from Ashley:
Hi Hi,
i am a bit confused about elemental blades and traps , i am an ice wiz, should i take fire and storm in order to use those blades and traps along side with my school? or i just forget them and take death for feint and life for health,,and if i did not take fire and storm as a seond and third school, those will go round my head like a merry go round, plz help thx

Oh yeah, those blades can be kind of spin-y around you, huh? Well, for ice wizards it's just kind of a necessary evil unfortunately. The trade off for high hitpoints and defense with ice wizards is that their base damage is low, and they don't get their own blade clear until level 38 . . . so you have to kind of compensate for that, and those elemental blades are awesome for helping compensate!

Also, it's true that feint is probably the coolest trap out there. You really can't beat 70% damage increase for one pip, and that, again, is really awesome for ice wizards. The problem is that you have to spend all those points in the death tree to get to it (7 training points), and at the early levels you'd probably fare better casting lightning bats spells for damage than a ghoul.

The Elemental traps and blades on the other hand don't require you to spend any other training points in the balance school to get them. Elemental Trap (25% damage for one pip) is available at level 15. Elemental Blade (+35% damage for one pip) is available at level 25.

Also keep in mind the versatility of elemental traps and blades. When you are playing with other people, you can toss out one of those traps on a bad guy and you've not only boosted your main attack, but the attacks of storm and fire as well for your group mates.

By the end of your journey, I think you'll want all the blades and traps you can use in your spellbook, so I'm going to recommend getting feint, elemental trap, AND the elemental blade. You'll want that power in your deck. Should you base your secondary class choice around it? Meh, not really. Just focus on making your main school shine. That's my 2 cents.

Unfortunately, the spinning is just something you'll have to live with.

Where's this magic wall in the Necropolis?

Glitch report from Cassandra!
Freindly, call the glitch dog! I found a glitch! In the upper left corner of the Necropolis there is a pillar/wall you can go through! We need this fixed!

GLITCHY! OH GLITCHY!

THAT'S A GOOOOOOD GLITCHY! (picture lifted from the LA Times article here)

GASP! When Cassandra told me about this glitch I had to see it for myself, so she brought me over to the Necropolis and we hung out in my new favorite spot in the game:

You can do that whole man stuck in cement thing here.

Or use it to your advantage:

Or stare out into eternity:

Thanks for the glitch report Cassandra! Who knows! Perhaps KI will fix this one when they get wind of it. In the meantime, HIDE AND SEEK IN THE NECROPOLIS WITH YOUR FRIENDS!

Is there an Amulet with the Satyr Spell?

Question from Tyler Moonriver:
hey dude its tyler moonriver hey i heard that there is a amulet that gives you stayr is that true and if so can you get it for me i cant go many places not member :(

'Sup Tyler?

Yes there is an Amulet with Satyr on it. It's called Meowiarty's Satyrical Choker. And to be honest, I have farmed Meowiary a good number of times and it has never dropped for me to date. /shrug

The only other items that seem to have a Satyr card on them are the Satyr pet itself for level 48 Life wizards and the Striders of the Verge. Well, those are the only items currently listed on Wikia, but there may be more. /shrug

Unfortunately, since it is rare, takes about 40 minutes to get to Meowiarty to even give it a shot, and I don't even know if the amulet is auctionable, I'm going to have to decline your request that I farm that item for you. Sorry! I just can't commit the time to that.

Anybody that has this amulet know if it can be sold to/from the bazaar? You'd have to really work out some timing to sell and buy that amulet and it might end up being expensive since it's rare.

/shrug

Best of luck to ya!

Mali-fest Redux

It looks like there's now a video available of the almost two-hour long event of running Stephen and Leesha through Malistaire with the assistance of Fallon and the not so helpful bloodbats of one Thomas Lionblood. ;p

So if you missed it, here's the recording (note, this does act as a spoiler for the Malistaire instance, so if you don't want to spoil the experience for yourself, then you may not want to watch):

Watch live streaming video from ravenwoodradio at livestream.com

Also there's been a couple of after party videos that have been done (which I am not in sadly since I needed to jet), and it looks like a lot of fun was had by all!

AND . . . Twitter news seems to indicate that by the end of the day Stephen Spiritcaller did in fact have his Grandmaster death robes from Malistaire! Gratz!

What does the hat of kindness look like on a girl?

Question from From Rachel Windtalon, the Helpful Sorcerer:
I'm a level 47 sorcerer and a blogger with all balance pattern gear except for my hat. My friend told me of youkai's hat of kindness, but I want to know wat it looks like. I've only seen a male version, but not a female version. Can you please show a picture of a female versio of youkai's hat of kindness?
Whew . . . I've been getting some very tough questions lately. Unfortunately the only way to get your answer is for me to farm Youkai. I did an Internet search, and yup, the only model of the hat I could find was over on Wikia, and, yes, it was only for a boy.

I've tried to tell people before, friends don't let friends farm youkai, and I took a bit of heat for saying that. (I mean, Kestrel stuck her tongue out at me and gave me a "nana nana boo boo" after showing me her bonzai tree in her new life house) it's just that Youkai's loot table is so deep and Youkai is located so deeply in The Tree of Life that it's one of my least favorite farms in the whole game.

But for you Rachel, I went in. *cue ominous music*

I went in with an all female force even! It took me a good hour or so of farming, but just about when I was going to give up and come back here to blogspot defeated, bling!

YOUKAI'S HAT OF KINDNESS! *guitar solo*

Fancy! It's one of those to-the-side hats with some gems and a fancy pattern around the brim. FANCY STUFF! I like it, and I hope you like it to. It looks good on Iridian there. :-)
