Today's pet of the day is the Wraith . . . yes, it is a bit exclusive of a pet. Not everyone can have one of these bad boys.
Oh, so awesome for necromancers!
Little known fact about the level 48 pets. There is no level restriction for using them. Amazing, eh?
So if I really wanted to, I could make a level 1 death wizard on my account and hand this wraith pet down to him. In fact, you may see a number of lower level wizards with these pets and think, "HOW? HOW DID THEY GET THAT?" That's how.
Mister Brandy and I like to hang out. We go to parties together.
Sometimes we just chill by the Wraith statue in my house.
Today is actually a perfect day for the Wraith to be the pet of the day! Why? Because it's the Death Breeze at Briskbreeze event for me, Stephen, Leesha, and Fallon . . . and all of you as you come along for the ride at 4pm central. Don't forget!
The "Wizard Wiggle" as Leesha from Ravenwood Radio calls it, is our basic dance in Wizard101. That's all there is for the /dance emote. We also have a /clap emote where you do a little dance as well while clapping your hands.
Last year I made a little dance video down in Katzenstein's Lab featuring our dance moves. Check it out:
These are ok, and I had fun making that, yet in game I'm always left wanting more. I guess it's because of the other MMO games I've played where the dances are so awesome. In other MMO's each class or race usually has it's own specific dance.
Look at the amazing work that went into all these guild wars dances. It's actually awe inspiring how many cool dances there are here.
Next up is World of Warcraft, this one comes complete with source material thrown in:
And then there's Lord of the Rings . . . now these aren't really astounding or anything, but the thing to see here is that a character can learn different dances, no matter how slightly different they are:
And here we have the new game I've been dabbling in here, Fiesta. So uh, fast forward through 1:00 to about 1:10 unless you want to /blush.
The deal with Fiesta is that you can purchase new dance moves for your character through their store. You get a default dance move, and then for some money you can buy a few others; there are varieties available to you.
It wouldn't be a discussion of MMO dancing if we didn't throw the Grand daddy of them all in there . . . EQ . . .
UH, yeah . . I'm thinking this video is trying to showcase EVERYTHING ELSE in the game besides dancing . . . you'll notice the dancing sucks. Yeah . . . not fun, but EQ never was about the dancing, and that is so MOSTLY because I don't think they understood the behemoth of community. If they would have grasped that (and how could they? Ultima and EQ were pretty much the first on the block) I think they would have thrown in more /dance.
I'm sure there are plenty more examples out there, and the purpose of this list isn't to be an exhaustive examination. All I really want to say is . . . please, KI, this game does actually have a pretty deep community component to it. It's not always about playing the card game. All the modern MMOs try to inject this kind of fun into their game: we are not EQ or Ultima.
Don't you think it's about time that you gave us all some free content that DIDN'T cost crowns or gold or anything? Don't you feel like you could give the community a few more fun things that we didn't have to pay for?
And on a separate yet equally important community note: I've thought this game needed some party enhancers since the beginning . . . even Toon Town has parties with special activities you can do (be sure to check the dance party game at 3:00 minutes or so in while you're at it)
TOON TOWN! COME ON!
I think a death wizard should dance differently than an ice wizard. I think the boys should dance differently than the girls. I think we need FUN ENHANCERS for the community! Even if you decide to go the crown route like Fiesta where we buy new dances . . . at least we'd have more options and at least we'd have more community type of fun available to us.
So, who would love to see some more fun and (relatively free) community enhancers? Weigh in readers! I think you've heard me rant about stuff like this one time or another.
Now, KI, if you're reading, forget everything I just said and please finish Celestia . . . LOL . . . I'll forward this post to you all after the summer is over. :-)
Aha! It's a lengthy quest that leads to an awesome reward: A Dreadful Situation. Poor Penny Dreadful is stuck at Wizard School, and (if you so choose) it's your job to help her get things back in order. By the end of the quest line, you've helped Penny out of a tight jam in the Dark Cave and delivered to her a package. Silly Penny's parents have sent her a cyclops pet and totally forgot that she's allergic to them! TADA! So she gives it to her new best pal in the whole world, you!
Nowadays this is probably the most common pet out there! But I remember a time back when there were no cyclops pets running around and being happily surprised when I got mine last year. Ahh, Mister Peanut, it's been a long time since I've had you out of my bank.
TODAY IS THE DAY! PULL THOSE CYCLOPS BUDDIES OUT OF THE BAG AND LET THEM GET A LITTLE VITAMIN D!
They are pretty awesome after all, even if they are kinda common. Check it out:
I don't know how many of you have watched the making of Wizard101 videos, but I was watching them all over again the other day. Part 3 has a nice summary of how the cyclops became a part of the game from thought, to drawing, to 3-D model, to walking around in game. It's definitely worth a watch!
(Check out Jeff Tony walking in the background around 1:05 following some fire elves HEHE! I'm such a Jeff Tony fan!)
Also, and this is pretty huge, KI is holding a blowout sale on crowns. I mean, we've seen the 60$ subscription plan come and go, but we've NEVER seen a $60 for 60,000 CROWNS deal like this. This is astounding!
You know, I wonder if this is all in preparation for the crowns we'll be spending on the new pet enhancements and Celestia for the crowns players?
Load up your patcher and click that link if you're interested. That deal just seems too good to not call your attention to it (not like the patcher didn't do it's job, you know, I just had to report it because it's freaking monumental enough that my jaw dropped a little.)
It's ok, I got a bunch of people last year too. April 1st last year was just right before the Level 48 spells were released. People were freaking out because they didn't read to the very end of my post, just like this year. The forums over at Wizard101.com had someone wondering why he couldn't get his level 48 spells yet.
I thought that was pretty good, but this year was epic! Check out the Central thread.
OH man, I need to hide now! LOL! SORRY! I'M NOT TO BE TRUSTED ON APRIL FOOL'S DAY!
**UPDATE** This was an April Fool's Joke. GOTCHA! **UPDATE**
Aha! Bet you didn't know about the Skeletal Pirate pet, did you? Edward Icespear doesn't even know about the Skeletal Pirate pet, BUT I DO!!! Guess where I got this pet, y'all?
I said guess!
Nope, not at a Grateful Dead concert (good guess though)! I got him from Tumok Gravelbeard in Dragonspyre, which means the real drop could be any of the level 50 mobs in Dragonspyre (unless KI made it an exclusive drop to Tumok, why would they do that?). I can't tell you how freaking excited I was and how freaking excited I was to show my rufus off to you all for pet of the day!
First off, the concept art from KI:
I love that so much! Thanks KI!
Me and Rufus doing our thing! This is such a great pet for a necromancer to have! Too bad it doesn't have a card of skeletal pirate though. :/
So please if you guys figure out where this drops besides Tumok Gravelbeard, I'm sure the community would LOVE to know since Tumok's loot table is so deep.
I know it's going to be hard, but just think of all the loot you'll have by the end of the day, yo. GO FORTH AND FARM MY FRIENDS! FARM TILL YOUR PARENTS GROUND YOU! FARM UNTIL RAVENWOOD RADIO BECOMES ALL ABOUT FARMVILLE!
