Maximum Level / Grandmaster XP

Wizard101 friends, fans, and customers,

When we first envisioned our sixth world we saw it as a world Wizards would experience after Dragonspyre. This world would have increased the maximum level beyond 50 and the supporting content (new spells, equipment, etc) necessary for the max level increase. However, when we dug into the overall Wizard101 game play and what would best serve our community we decided to launch Grizzleheim, a world that created a parallel experience and offered new content and experiences as players leveled thru the entire game and the other five worlds. While we hope that high level characters find the content enjoyable and engaging the immediate downside to this decision was that no level increase was introduced with this world.

Our decision to launch Grizzleheim also afforded us the ability to address several features that you, our community, had asked for. Features like the ability to group with other Wizards, control friend requests, trade request and new systems like crafting and the bazaar. We felt they were good, valuable additions, and so we made a decision to include them for all players new and old to enjoy.

That said, we did mention to our highest level players that the level cap would be raised this summer and we were not able to make that goal a reality. We apologize for that and would like say that we are continuing forward with plans to release new worlds that do push Wizards beyond level 50. In order to accomplish it, we need to make sure there are new opponents, quests, worlds, spells, and more.

If you're close to or already at level 50, we invite you to explore Grizzleheim, the new crafting system, and the Bazaar and hope you are interested in seeing what new things we have in store for you soon. Thank you for playing Wizard101!

Is it just me, or is this saying to not worry about the "loss of experience" that might be incurred from doing Grizzleheim quests when you're already 50? That's how I'm reading it. I bet they ensure a way for you to reach the new max level when the new content goes live.

What's your opinion on that?

Happy Dueling!

Well, this is precisely why I haven't done anything in Grizzleheim with Tara. No xp and no loot upgrades really makes time spent in Grizzleheim with a maxed out character a waste of time. My return to EQ2 has kept me out of W101 lately, unfortunately. I'll have to make time to return and do the expansion with my 30 Balance alt. Sounds like it's pretty short.

I'm just glad to hear they're working at all on raising the level cap. Sure I was disappointed at not having anything really new (and useful) for my Grandmaster, but it's driven me to focus more on my newer characters. It's surprising to me how much changing schools changes my strategy and gameplay.

Even if English is not my first language, I don't think he went as far as saying not to worry about the loss of XP by doing Grizzlheim.

For me that XP is lost and I don't really care. I had fun completing Grizzleheim and that was the most important for me.

But I am still looking forward to a raised level cap.

I'm thinking that fretting about "lost experience" is kind of pointless, because any new, sequential world will have to contain all of the necessary XP to get someone at the current cap to whatever the new cap will be. To design the world such that XP overages from DS or GH were NEEDED to reach the new level cap would invite a level of Grandmaster outrage that would make the current grousing seem like mild dyspepsia. KI is smarter than that (I think?).

Cyrus Drake already mentioned somewhere that when the next world comes out, the quests will already give you enough experience to reach the new level cap/max level. I think it was somewhere on the official forums.

IMO, KI is now on a path of retention for their "end game" players. How many times have we heard (in game) "I'm bored"? KI knows that it has to address it's (growing) Grandmaster community, or risk losing it to other MMO's.

Not an easy situation, lacking that magic "content button".

OMG I want a higher level ability I may already have a long way to go till grand master but here is what I think To play a game and to love it it needs to have purpus at the end and with the end must come a begining

@Bren: I was tempted to give eq2 a spin during the free period they just had (or are still having?)

@star: It definitely is a different scene playing a fire wizard. So many characters to level ...

@jgoof: yeah, I was kind of reading between the lines when they said that they "Invited" level 50 characters to play through Grizzleheim. You're right though...don't think it will matter much in the long run.

@Adam: one would hope! Otherwise, that's a lot of draconian farming you'd have to do. ;)

@SDW: good good. I can always count on you for the good information. Keep it up man. You are awesome.

@autumn: They took a big risk by providing parrallel content, but it's a very smart move to take if they are in this for the long haul. This topic you bring up might even be post-worthy yo. Nay, it *is* post worthy.

@silver: Great observation. Also post-worthy.

Man, the comments here today just kicked butt. Thank-you.

... Can you believe I typed this all on my iPhone? Whew.
