From what Seth told me and from what I'm reading on Central, this fella is the result of a Helephant and Unicorn hatch. I can't wait to try it out!
Also of news yesterday was the "pet egg" pet. The thread to follow for information is right here. From what the rumors are saying, this comes from a Helephant and Dragon hatch. That seems to be unconfirmed at this point.
**UPDATE** It's now been found that the pet egg comes from a Collossus and Dragon mix! Thanks readers! **UPDATE**
The pet egg is interesting. I remember standing around with a group of KI people at GDC and they mentioned that at one time they thought about letting people equip their unhatched eggs and let them bounce around behind them, but that idea was scrapped.
Let me know if you find any more strange hatches! It definitely looks like KI has put a couple into the game . . . maybe more?

Wow - that's the first pet I've seen that I would consider un-equipping Madame Jasmine for!! So cool - reminds me of the old Magic: The Gathering card 'Nightmare' card, too! (One of my all time favorites!)

There's another rumor pointing towards a Dragon and Helephant being the ingredients for the Pet Egg.
If there's any truth to both your described rumor and this one, perhaps any Dragon + Level 48 pet = Pet Egg?
eh, that would explain it. No one ever tried hatching with the unicorn and helephant because unicorn's stats are "not good". But I say its a pretty good looking pet and we just wait and find out what else kingsisle is hiding from us :) peace

Hello Friendly, My Wiz101 name is Justin Icecaster lvl. 35 and I was just going to tell you some important news. I play Free Realms now and they recently got a new pet. The new pet's breed is a nightmare. I have a feeling that KI is downright copying this pet from Free Realms. The Wiz101 nightmare looks almost exactly like the one on Free Realms. And besides that, the nightmare is BRAND new for both games. Wiz101 is totally copying this pet from Free Realms... no argument. If you wanna see for yourself get on Free Realms and look up nightmare pony. It's the EXACT same thing.

Hmm... This might not be the end for your quest to find the death unicorn. Why would KI only make this cool hybrid be allowed for fire students? There's a good chance that if you mix with Wraith it will make Death Pony, or with Orthrus, Myth pony. Or Frozen Pony, Or Water Horse, or whatever. I'm glad that KI is making more hybrids though.

hmm friendly, i was looking around and i found this page full of hybrids.... It says that the egg pet comes from collosus and dragon, but it is confirmed as a pet!
One time I THINK saw a horse just like that one, but it was like a Myth horse, because it was yellow with a light blue mane. But it must be mah old eyes playin tricks on meh
You know friendly, wasn't there a down time recently, I can't remember if its coming or has passed, but these new pets might be from that new patch. Nightmare........ has a nice ring to it, though I would think that the wraith-unicorn combo would be called that. It actually looks like one of the parents would be a wraith, black fur, fiery mane. It's kind of like that horse/fire pokemon. Rapidash, I think it's called. Meteor storm is a very good card for non-fires though. I wonder what cards the other combos give. This is actually a rather fun thing to think about, I thought a few ideas for the combos, though lol they've already been made.
Wraith-unicorn - ghost horse, looks like a see through unicorn, gives poison
Orthrus-unicorn - Pegasus, looks like unicorn with wings ,gives cyclops
Stormzilla-unicorn - hippocampi, looks like sea dragon with unicorns head, gives lightning bats
Hydra-unicorn - nova horse , looks like a bright outline of unicorn with light emitting, gives the spell that gives more chance of power pips.
collosus-unicorn - ice horse , looks like a unicorn with icy coat and leaves a white sparkling dust in its wake, gives blizzard
Helephent-unicorn - like shown
Satyr-unicorn - forest horse, looks like a unicorn but has the fur coloring of bark, mane color of grizzleheims trees (bad description lol ;) ) and gives unicorn spell( I mean really, the unicorn needs a unicorn spell! )
Friendly, maybe you can have your long awaited death unicorn after all!

Ugh! I have 21 times now with helephant and unicorn but no luck! Just herds of helephants and unicorns! XP And no luck asking the few nightmare owners in Hatchery to hatch with me! :( Are there any hints for successful nightmare hatching?
BTW my buddy suggested hatching for mounts XD A nightmare would be awesome to ride!
I got the nightmare mix a phionix and nightmare and you should get it in the first two trys
