How did you make your remixes?

Samuel wants to know!
Hey Friendly, Its me again. I wanna know how did you make your remixes? I don't know how to do it. I tried Garageband and such but cant figure it out.

First, I just have to say that it's AWESOME you're trying to do a remix or make a song. Much love to the musically inclined out there who want to express their fan-self through music. Good for you.

I went to the Garageband website to see what that software was since I hadn't heard of it. Yeah, that looks like most remix or mixing software out there. It does look like Garageband was meant for recording live instruments. Some of these programs can be a bear to work with, but once you get the hang of it, you can do some really neat stuff.

The software I use is a combination of Reason 4.0 and Acid Music. Down in our unfinished basement I have a computer dedicated to music creation (and light shows, LOL). Of course, it also has a copy of Wizard101 on it in case I'm really jonesing for some play time and the other computer and laptop are busy.

I've midi'd my old Kurzweil K2000S synth to the computer. I don't use any sounds from that keyboard (although it has a killer analog synth sound builder in it). It's just a glorified midi controller.

What I usually do is sit in game and gather sound or music with acid music, then chop that into sound samples, and save the wave files. I'll then bounce the sounds into Reason and tap out the rhythm or use the drum machine plugin to create something funky. Then I'll lay down the rest of the tracks, adjust, etc (insert magic). After I finish a song with Reason, it's not really finished for me. I bounce the entire thing back into Acid music and remix and polish it there.

/shrug . . . there's a bunch of ways to do it. That's just how I do it.

Thanks for the question and best of luck!

Happy Dueling!

  2. Speaking of Remixes, I still haven't found anywhere to download "Centaur Jam" from last August. Last I heard you were waiting to hear whether Greyrose would host it on KI's site or not.
